Public Outreach

Schepens Eye Research Institute coordinates a number of outreach efforts aimed at specific audiences, including the general public, clinical and research scientists and other specific population groups.

Rich Godfrey, our Patient Liaison, is of invaluable service in providing first-hand knowledge of living with low vision, as well as information on current teatments available.

Other recent efforts include:

  • The Macular Degeneration Symposia series,  at locations in Boston, Cape Cod and Florida, occur at intervals throughout the year.

  • World Sight Day, in conjunction with the World Health Organization, is held annually in October to focus attention on eliminating preventable blindness, improving awareness of visual impairment and on the rehabilitation of the visually impaired.

  • Women's Eye was formed in response to the troubling reality that two-thirds of the world’s population of blind and visually impaired persons are women.
